COVID-19 has been hitting us with full force since March. Unfortunately, this global pandemic affects many facets of our lives, including our finances. Of course, this reality is no different for sports teams and organizations, who, because of the current climate, may find it difficult to finance themselves. However, don’t lose hope – there are creative ways to finance your sports teams, even during these difficult times.

Here's our list of 5 ways to finance your team during these tough times

  1. Selling meals or ready-to-eat foods
  2. Organize online bingo
  3. Partner with a store or restaurant and sell their products
  4. Prepare a virtual walk/run
  5. Selling masks/sanitary products in your community

1. Sale of meals or ready-to-eat foods

Whether it’s cookies, pre-made soups, muffins, brownies, chili, etc., selling ready-to-eat meals or snacks is a great creative fundraising idea for your sports team. Not only are these products affordable, they’re also highly appreciated for their great taste and ease of cooking. Quebec-based Recettes en Pot specializes in this type of food and partnership. You can also make these recipes yourself! There are many recipes for Pot Soup and others online!

2. Organize an online bingo

Since it’s forbidden to gather these days, we need to find creative ways to be together. What better way than a virtual event to raise funds and get together legally? A virtual bingo to fund your team is a great idea. Many partners can be found to offer prizes to participants, who pay an entry fee to take part.
To create your own bingo, there are a number of applications available, such as BingoMaker. It’s guaranteed fun for participants, and money in your team’s pockets!

3. Partner with a store or restaurant and sell their products

With COVID, the trend is to buy local. Why not partner with a local restaurant or store for your sports fundraiser? Many restaurants or stores near you would be willing to provide products for you to sell and keep a share of the profits for your team.
It’s not only a great way for you to fund your team responsibly. It’s also a great way for your local business to gain more exposure.

4. Prepare a virtual walk/run

To keep with the sports theme, a virtual walk/run is the perfect idea! For the benefit of your team, interested parties pay an amount to your team and take part in the virtual race. Getting people involved can be as simple as creating a Facebook page for the event. You can manage registrations and donations on the page with a GoFundMe page, for example. Keeping fit for the season while doing some creative fundraising for your team? It’s 2 for 1!

5. Sales of masks/sanitary products in your community

In the current climate, people are very cautious, and many health measures are in place to ensure people’s safety. Why not take advantage of the situation to help the community around you? Sanitary items such as masks and disinfectant are needed. Sell these products (which you will have purchased in advance) in your neighborhood. You’ll be saving time for the people around you, since they won’t have to go to the store to buy these items. What’s more, you’ll be financing your sports team! A good deed that pays off!
