The dangers of using social media in sport

Le danger relatif à l’utilisation des médias sociaux en contexte sportif

The use of social media in sports teams is on the increase. It facilitates communication between team members and enables them to exchange photos of their matches.

Many teams use private Facebook groups to communicate between team members. Coaches often post training schedules and locations, or important information about the next match.

Parents or players can post carpool offers to get to practices or matches. They can also share photos taken during matches or tournaments.

The issue

At first glance, this platform appears to be the ideal product for facilitating communications within sports teams. However, on closer inspection, some questions arise.

Coaches can add their underage athletes to the team’s Facebook group. This is not a professional action, since the coach has access to all the players’ personal photos. We’re seeing the phenomenon spread to other social platforms like Instagram.

Several scandals have made the headlines concerning coaches who abuse their power over their athletes. Often, they communicate with their victims via social media. To avoid this kind of situation, it’s best to keep the coach-player relationship professional.

That’s why using a personal platform like Facebook is not recommended for communication between members of a sports team. Also, some people don’t have a Facebook account and don’t want to sign up!

MonClubSportif has the solution for you!

A platform strictly designed to facilitate sports team management. It enables team members to communicate efficiently and securely. Parents can also access the platform.
